Lorna Pilling

With a driven desire to teach, I have developed experience by attending placement opportunities in both mainstream and SEN schools allowing me to develop my teaching by supporting practical lessons as well as offering one-to-one support and guidance. As an approachable and excellent role model who has built many professional relationships with pupils and peers at my current placement, I have contributed to the wider ethos of the school and taken on board advice from professionals. During my current PGCE placement, I also liaise with staff to seek advice and participate in training and weekly staff meetings. With restrictions having a significant effect on many trainee students, I have been fortunate enough to adapt to sudden changes and teach online and in class and become confident using different software. I excel in computing and have distinction* diploma qualifications that I achieved during further education.

As a trainee teacher and customer assistant in retail, I have developed skills that can be applied to any teaching role. I set high expectations for learning and a desire to impart to pupils the knowledge I have gained in an enjoyable yet challenging matter. I have experience planning and delivering core and foundation subjects both remotely and in school across contrasting key stages ensuring individual needs are met for all children. I have liaised with teaching assistants effectively and provided additional resources to TA-supported individuals and set challenges for pupils who excel. My current placement has allowed me to acquire skills working alongside SEN pupils and develop my knowledge and understanding of phonics.

I have exceptional organisational and time management skills that I have developed during employment and studies regarding deadlines, attendance, and punctuality. I am a proactive individual who takes on board constructive criticism from peers to constantly be improving my teaching and subject knowledge. With a love for sports, I have developed leadership and teamwork skills from being captain of previous sports teams to working effectively as part of a time in my current employment.

I am a committed professional who ensures all students achieve their potential. From motivating pupils with imaginative presentations to planning and presenting lessons with a desire to create a love of learning. I aim to see the best in people and hope that with my firm but caring approach I will create a positive learning environment and have a significant impact on children’s learning.
